A Tippy Canoe & Dad's Day Too

As mentioned two posts ago, my eldest daughter came to visit on Father's Day eve, but had to head back late that night. Wonderfully, my youngest daughter then visited the following day on Father's day. Nice.

I'm not one to make a big deal out of such things however. Although I don't mind being the center of attention, I do prefer to do it on my own terms. So things like Fathers Day, birthdays, etc. I could just let pass by, although I suppose my feelings would be hurt if my daughters completely ignored me. Thanks Hallmark, that would be your fault.

So, don't know why, things just happen. Six themes threaded with three photos each, plus a leftover.
"Mother/Daughter One". Bonding over flower gardens. Lots of lush flora means lots of water. At the rear you can see our two new adirondack chairs drying from a coat of red paint. Man do they look nice with all the gardens and maturing trees in the yard. Sigh, maturing as we.
"Mother/Daughter Two". Erin wears shades atop her head, Barbara a red cap. Barbara holds a milk bottle full of agua.
"Mother/Daughter Three". I don't know, I just like this one because of the water droplets. Looks like Barb is mesmerized too.

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older and I'm getting older too
Oh, I'm getting older too

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well, the landslide bring it down
Oh, the landslide bring it down ~Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks)
"PapaSon One". Father and Son on Father's Day. Note how they not only look like each other, they have a similar pose.
"PapaSon Two".
And..."PapaSon Three". Do you see what I see?

The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
My instrument
And his song is in my soul --
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I’m just a living legacy
To the leader of the band.

I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom
When it came my time to go --
I thank you for the kindness
And the times when you got tough
And, papa, I don’t think I
Said ’i love you’ near enough-- ~Dan Fogelberg
"Errant Canoe One". A Yellow CoreCraft Canoe (CCC) We decide to take a boat ride, and as we are walking toward the boat, I see our canoe is gone. Been sitting on a rack on the side of the dock for a couple decades. But it's gone. Would someone steal it? An old Corecraft? Did the canoe runaway er floataway, irritated at it's lack of use? But I remember my Brother Duck Man had set it up on it's side to apply the 2010 license a few weeks before, and I feel the wind must have blown it off it's perch and into the river.

But the river is a marsh around our dock for hundreds of feet north and south, it would have to be in the weeds, how could it go out into the stream? We get in the boat, travel around looking into the weeds. Nowhere to be seen. The weeds stop, and the river meanders to the right about two or three doors down river. I figure someone must have grabbed it and took it home, but wouldn't they check the new license, call the DNR and we'd get it back? Shrug. Brother Bear says, "lets go downstream a bit and look". I think silly, but play along. Sure enough, the canoe is tied up at a neighbors around the corner. Hmmph. The canoe is trying to tell me something.

Brother Bear and wife, decide they shall paddle it back to our dock 150 yards away.
"Errant Canoe Two". I think the canoe likes them.

Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
With the moon shinin' all around.
He plied his paddle so...
you couldn't even hear a sound.

So they talked and they talked
'til the moon grew dim.
He said you better kiss me
or get out and swim.

So whatcha gonna do in a little canoe
with the moon shinin' all around?
Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe
with the moon shinin' all around. ~Children's Song
"Errant Canoe Three". CCC Riders.
I was lookin’ right at her when that sun went down
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Well, CC Rider, see what you gone done
CC Rider, now see what you gone done
CC Rider, you’ll see what you gone done
Hey, hey, hey, hey ~Mississippi John Hurt & Many Others. Traditional
"Migizi One". Perching.
"Migizi Two". Taking Flight.
"Migizi Three". Flapping. Soaring.

Feed the babies
Who don't have enough to eat
Shoe the children
With no shoes on their feet
House the people
Livin' in the street
Oh, oh, there's a solution

I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I'm free
Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future ~Steve Miller
"Pontoon One".
"Pontoon Two". The Bear revs up his hog while Mary Lou hangs on.

He had a pretty girlfriend by the name of Mary Lou
But he treated her just like he treated all the rest
And everybody pitied her and everybody knew
He loved that doggone motorcycle best

He wore black denim trousers and motorcycle boots
And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back
He had a hopped-up 'cicle that took off like a gun
That fool was the terror of Highway 101 ~The Cheers. Written by Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber
"Pontoon Three". Amused or Confused?"Portage One". Well, they looked so happy together, and I thought 'ole CoreCraft Canoe had runaway anyway displeased with me for lack of exercise, I told the Turtle Lake Gang they could foster care her for the rest of the summer. See, they haven't come up with a boat yet. Now that looks difficult doesn't it? 300 feet on a 3 foot wide dock. Whoa. Hey someone had to snap the photo-journal this portage.
"Portage Two".

I'm a-walkin' in the rain,
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain,
Wishin' you were here by me,
To end this misery
And I wonder--
I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder,
Why,
Why, why, why, why, why she ran away,
Yes, and I wonder,
A-where she will stay-ay,
My little runaway. ~Del Shannon
"Portage Three".

The moon comes up at six o'clock
And I come up at eight
She's always waitin' for my call
And meets me at the gate
I've petted in the parlor
And hugged her in the hall
But when she's out in my canoe
I love her best of all: ~Harry M. Woods
"Misc. One". Two men on a deck with shades, empty chair and red brick Weber grill.
"Misc. Two".
"Misc. Three". Barbara ready to spear any muskies nearby who would interfere with docking.

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home ~Otis Redding

It seems like you guys do a lot of partying for sure. Must be a very lazy life style up there. A pontoon I can see, a canoe, not really, too much work. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Love the pics and love the song lyrics. You've made me feel wistful... not to mention older. Time keeps on slippin' away. Glad you rescued the canoe!
